Artforms are expressions, they are emotions that are released in different forms and styles. There are variety of ways for outflow talent. Artists pour their ideas and thoughts through one or the other platforms as painting, singing, dancing, writing and so on. That is why with conviction we can say, Artforms: Thoughts of Creative and Ignited Minds that need Expression and a Medium. Lets explore more about different art forms.

Types of artforms

There are different types of artforms and may be categorized in various ways. Some of the visual and performing arts categories are as follows:

  1. Painting (paper, canvas, fabric, paints, brushes, oil, water or other medium and surface)
  2. Music (Vocal, instrumental or sounds)
  3. Poetry (in different languages and moods, for praise, romance, sadness, happiness, Sufi, religious and other such emotions and occasions)

  6. Literature
  7. Sculpture (with wood, stone, cement and so on.
  8. Comics and Animation
  9. Acting and Performing Arts (Theatre and Cinema)
  10. Photography and Cinematography

Any creative work done artistically to express feelings, thoughts and emotions which are visually pleasing and impressive at the same time express the idea and connect with the audience is an art!

Artists require lot of soft skills which are either inherent that is by birth or genetically transferred or may be acquired over a period of time. Creativity, Confidence, problem solving, focus, perseverance and concentration are very much required in an artist.

Art may be performed either for decorative, commercial purpose or as a profession with fine skills.

  1. Modernism : Artform that challenged traditional fine art with modern techniques, A period of art form between 19th and mid 20th century, for example, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.
  2. Abstracts : Art form with no depiction of reality, just the visual strokes of shape, color, forms and gestures instead. left to audience capability and imagination to decipher.
  3. Expressionism : Art form in which artist put forward subjective point though distort the reality to express own ideas and emotions. Started in Northern Europe in Painting and Poetry art forms.
  4. Photorealism : An artform in which artist studies a photograph or image and try to paint similar image on other medium as realistically as possible.
  5. Surrealism : This art form capture imagination of subconscious mind. This art revolutionize human experiences. Some artists use automation to unlock ideas and express the imagination of their subconscious minds.
  6. Fantasy :Artists use visual storytelling of mythological characters and superstitions and imaginations of an era.
  7. Impressionism : An art form developed in France in mid to late 19th century that shows impression of a form with small visual brushstrokes, with unblended colors and actual depiction of natural light. For example a natural scenery at a point of time.
  8. Pop art :An art form that emerged in United kingdom and United States in late 1950’s that included imagery from popular and mass culture and mostly used in advertising and comic books and other mass media objects.
  9. Cubism :An early 20th century art form that revolutionized European fine arts and sculpture. This form deconstructs life images and reassemble to get back almost to normal image and try to bring unity. Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in Paris are said to be the founders of Cubism.

Artforms evolution, since its origin has seen many versions of itself and each form has gathered appreciation and criticism in each era.

This gave birth to altogether a separate field of study known as “Aesthetics”, the philosophical study of Beauty and Taste! The study of principles and definitions of arts derived through sensory, imaginary, visual and natural themes!
