Kashmir in My Home
Never been to Kashmir. Seen it through movies. Heard in the conversation of travel enthusiasts. Kashmiri Embroidery rug in my home is my favorite. It is embellished with Kashmiri embroidery called KashidaKari. The colorful threads and exquisite needlework handicraft makes it valuable and precious.
Purchased this beautiful piece from Kashmiri stall in Pragati Maidan Trade Fair in New Delhi around 2004.
I collect beautiful embroidered pieces and am also into creating embroidered projects since primary school time. It was compulsory for all students, in my primary school years. Beautiful colored threads in cotton, silk, in all colors especially golden and silver fascinated me.
Sounds crazy now, I embroidered my first project, which was a Tea-Cozy in Grade 4. My mom quilted and stitched it later. It was a great conversation piece then and she used to praise and bragged about it.
Needle work is also a great way to focus and concentrate and needs lots of patience. I embroidered several projects as cushion covers, tablecloth, Kurtas, dresses, bedsheet and pillow covers, cotton and rayon nets, saris, wall art using colorful threads, mirrors and sequins.
Still find time to recreate magic and teach my kids this awesome art. Would wish to propagate this handicraft before the end of mystical, magical spell!
